Kitchen Area
Designed for gathering as much as cooking, Brookside’s open kitchen sits at the heart of the main living space. A large central island provides plenty of room for meal preparation, casual dining and conversation, while full-size appliances, generous storage and a dedicated coffee station make longer stays easy. Warm cabinetry, stone counters and natural light from the surrounding windows give the space a polished but relaxed feel that connects naturally with the dining and great-room areas
Outdoor Living
Outside, the deck, screened porch, hot tub and firepit extend the day well beyond the walls of the house. The Game Shed adds another place to gather, while the surrounding property provides the privacy and calm we wanted from Brookside from the beginning.
Main Living Area
The kitchen, dining and living areas flow together so the day can move easily from breakfast to cards around the table to a late-night conversation by the fire. Large windows connect the room to the deck and surrounding landscape, making the main level feel open in every season.
Bedrooms
Four bedrooms give families and groups room to spread out and recharge. Comfortable bedding, quiet corners and thoughtful details make longer stays easy, while the layout keeps everyone connected to Brookside’s main gathering spaces.
Our Story
Why We Built Brookside
Brookside grew from our family’s long connection to Cape Breton. Elizabeth spent childhood summers at her family’s cottage along the Margaree River, and after we began dating in 1997, the island quickly became one of our favourite places to return to together. Over the years, Cape Breton became woven into our family’s story.
Building Brookside was a dream many years in the making. We wanted to create a place where our family and friends could gather, slow down and reconnect — and where guests could experience the same combination of coast, Highlands, food, music and unhurried time that keeps drawing us back.We hope Brookside feels less like a rental and more like a place you can settle into, make your own for a week, and remember long after you leave.
